The Awami League spokesperson has hoped the general election will be free and fair where all political parties will contest.Syed Ashraful Islam also observed it was possible to go to the polls without army deployment but it is the Election Commission that will make a decision.
“We’d like to firmly tell you (journalists) that the election will be free and fair and all political parties will take part in it,” the LGRD Minister said on Wednesday after a session at the conference of DCs at his ministry.
The parliamentary elections will be staged much in the same [fair manner] as the local government polls, he asserted.
The opposition alliance, which the BNP leads, has been demanding for a non-party caretaker government to oversee the polls and threatened to stay away otherwise.
“We have told the DCs the administration has proven that it is possible to organise free, fair, neutral and acceptable election without army deployment,” Ashraf said reflecting on the discussion.
He said army was not called out in the local polls under the current government.
“We told the DCs that we are hopeful of seeing a free and neutral election.
“You (DCs) have proved it time and again that it is possible to organise such polls in Bangladesh,” he said.
The ruling party’s general secretary hinted that the election process will follow that of other democracies in the world.
“We can say from our experiences that the polls will be free and fair with everyone’s participation.
“The results will be acceptable to the people.” – bdnews24.com
