Dhaka, Mar 27 (UNB) – A brilliant century by Indian Unmukt Chand forced league leader Dhaka Abahani Limited to suffer 4th defeat in the Dhaka Metropolis Premier Division Cricket League losing to Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 26 runs in their 2nd super league encounter at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on Tuesday.
In the day’s other super league matches, Legends of Rupganj (260/5 in 48.4) beat Prime Doleshwar SC (257/5 in 50) by five wickets at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur while Gazi Group Cricketers (304/6 in 50) defeated Khalaghar SKS (270 all in 49.3) by 34 runs at BKSP ground in Savar.
After the day’s matches, Dhaka Abahani Limited maintained the top slot intact securing 18 points from 13 matches, Sheikh Jamal DC advanced to the 3rd slot collecting 16 points, also playing 13 matches while Legends of Rupganj were in the 2nd place with better run rate, also with 16 points from 13 encounters.
Sent into bat first in the day’s match, Sheikh Jamal DC scored 256 for 8 in 50 overs featuring 90 runs in the opening stand by Unmukt Chand and Saikat Ali.
Indian right handed opening batsman Unmukt Chand contributing 101 runs off 138 balls featuring eight four and three sixes and was adjudged man of the match.
Besides, opener Saikat Ali (56), Tanbir Haider (31), Nurul Hasan (19) and Elias Sunny (not out 19) were other main contributors for Sheikh Jamal.
Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was the most successful among the Abahani bowler grabbing three wickets for 46 runs while national cricketers Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed took two wickets each conceding 37 and 59 runs respectively.
Chasing a target of 257 runs, Abahani Limited were all out for 230 runs in 47.2 overs with Mehidy Hasan Miraz scoring the team highest 35 runs off 32 balls, hitting one four and three sixes.
Besides, national coloured opener Anamul Haque (34), captain Nasir Hossain (28), Sunzamul Islam (27), Mosaddek Hossain (27) and GH Vihari (23) were notable scorers for Abahani Ltd.
Rabiul Haque and Abu Jayed claimed three wickets each conceding 35 and 51 runs respectively.UNB
