Dhaka – Tigers ODI side captain Mashrafe Bin Moratza has become the most wicket getter in one session of the List ‘A’ cricket in Bangladesh.
Mash captured 38 wickets in 15 matches, averaging 14.21 runs, in the 12-team Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPDCL) 2018 to leapfrog the previous record of pace bowler Abu Hider Rony, who got 35 wickets in 16 matches, at average 18.42 runs, in the 2017 session for Gazi Group Cricketers.
Mash set the record when his side Abahani Ltd edged close in to clinch the title of the DPDCL after a huge 127-run win against Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity in the 4th round super-league match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.
Mash needed one wicket more on the day’s match against Khelaghar to cross the milestone and got three wickets conceding 32 runs in eight overs to set the new record.
In the day’s match, sent in to bat first, Abahani scored 24/10 in 46.3 overs and restricted the new face of super-six side Khelaghar on 114/10 in 27.3 overs. Abahani maintained the top spot after the win, collecting 22 points from 15 outings as they recorded 11 wins against four losses.
Making his List ‘A’ debut in 2001-02, Mash played out so far 257 matches to get 367 wickets conceding average 27.20 runs.
Mash is also the most wicket takers for Bangladesh in the One Day International, having 237 wickets in 185 outings, average 30.85 runs, followed by the Tigers Test and T20I captain all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan with 235 wickets in 185 matches, average 29.46 runs.UNB
