An unknown disease has claimed the lives of 18 cattle in Ishurdi Military Dairy Farm in a span of two days.Of the cattle, 13 died on Sunday and the rest five on Monday, confirmed Ishurdi upazila livestock officer Mohiuddin.Sources at the farm run by the army said 32 cattle were identified as sick.The affected cattle first stopped eating and felt drowsiness and died within four to five hours.Some of them bleed through nose and mouth.Pabna district livestock officer Dr Saiful Islam, Ishurdi livestock officer Mohir Uddin, Ishurdi upazila veterinary surgeon Dr Nasrin Parvin and a team of livestock disease experts visited the dairy farm.But they could not confirm which disease caused the cattle’s death.Samples from the dead cattle were sent to Dhaka for postmortem to inquire into the incident, added the farm sources.The sources said 32 more cattle were identified as sick but they were getting cured after treatment.There are about 2,000 cattle in the diary farm located beside the runway of Ishurdi airport.Milk, butter and meat from the farm are supplied to different offices of the army. -UNB, Pabna
