‘BCL men’ beat up RU student

Rajshahi, July 4 – Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men beat a student at Rajshahi University on Wednesday allegedly after finding derogatory contents about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in his mobile phone. The victim was identified as Jasim Uddin, a third year student of Arab third-year of the university.
The victim claimed that BCL leaders intercepted him at the main gate around 11am while he was entering the campus to appear at an examination.
Later, they beat him alleging that derogatory contents about the Prime Minister were found in his mobile phone, he said.
Jasim alleged that Golam Kibria, President of RU unit BCL, hit him in the face.
Later, he was handed over to RU Proctor Dr Lutfur Rahman.
Meanwhile, Faisal Ahmed, General Secretary of the university BCL, denied the allegation, saying Jasim was handed over to the university proctor for making objectionable comments about the Prime Minister.
He also branded Jasim as a Shibir activist.
The proctor said they arranged treatment for the victim at his office. – UNB
