Dhaka, Aug 5 – Accusing the present government of taking a stance against the people, the BNP yesterday called upon all to get united to unseat the AL from power.
The present government has pounded heavily on the nation. Indeed, the government has taken a stance against the people. Thus, all have to get united to remove them (government),” said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press conference at party central office in the city. He said no person including diplomat and journalist are being escaped from their attacks.
Accusing the ruling party-backed terrorists of carrying out attack on US ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat, he said it has tarnished the image of the country in the world.
Mirza Alamgir demanded immediately arrest the perpetrators involved in the incident and provide them punishment.
Regarding leaking of telephonic conversation between BNP leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and one Naomi over ongoing students’ movement, he sees no offence in it.
“Where is offence there? The entire country is in the favour of the students’ agitation. We earlier also landed our support to the movement. All including politicians, police and intellectuals also termed the movement logical,” he said.
He, however, said that there are chances of releasing his statement after distorting it as he said now all type of mechanism is possible.
The BNP secretary general alleged that the law enforcers carried out a raid to arrest him (Khosru) twice Saturday night and also raided homes of Chhatra Dal leaders which he said amounted to carrying out drives against the democratic movement.
He alleged that the ruling party leaders are blaming the BNP to shift the focus of the ongoing movement to other directions.
Mirza Alamgir claimed that Chhatra League cadres carried out attacks on innocent children in Dhanmondi area and different parts of the country on Saturday injuring many of them.
Standing committee member Dr Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr Abdul Moin Khan, Amanullah Aman and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, among others, were present at the press conference. – Staff Reporter
