The government through the Ministry of Social Welfare distributed Taka 2,39,04,000
among 996 freedom fighters (FFs) as allowance in the district during the last 2012-2013
fiscal year, official sources said.
The Department of Social Service (DSS) of the ministry distributed Taka 2,000 per
month as allowance among each beneficiary FF to help them lead a better life.
Under the programme, Taka 6,14,000 was distributed as allowance among 307 FFs in
Sadar upazila, Taka 56,000 among 28 FF in Taraganj, Taka 92,000 among 46 FFs in
Pirganj and Taka 2,54,000 among 127 FFs in Badarganj upazila.
Besides, Taka 2,44,000 was distributed among 127 FFs in Gangachara upazila, Taka
3,24,000 among 162 FFs in Pirgachha, Taka 2,50,000 among 125 FFs in Mithapukur and
Taka 1,58,000 among 79 FFs in Kawnia upazila during the immediate past fiscal year.
Talking to BSS, FF Motiar Rahman, FF Golam Mostafa and a number of freedom
fighters said that they have been considering the allowance as mark of deep respect being
showed to them by the government, country and its people.
They also thanked the present pro-people government led by Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina for taking necessary very recent steps to further increase the monthly allowance
rate for the freedom fighters.
Deputy Director of DSS, Rangpur Harun Ar Rashid and its Acting Assistant Director
Mosaddekur Rahman said freedom fighters, the best sons and daughters of the soil, have
been getting the allowance timely in a hassle-free manner. -BSS, Rangpur
