Ershad reinstated GM Quader as JP Co-Chairman

Dhaka, April 06 – Jatiya Party (JP) chairman HM Ershad’s younger brother GM Quader will act as the party chief in absence of Ershad as the party chief reinstated Quader as co-chairman after removing him from the post on March 23.
An appointment order regarding Quader, signed by Ershad, was issued by Jatiya Party chairman in this regard yesterday.
Meanwhile, JP secretary general Mashiur Rahman Ranga yesterday expressed his solidarity over the party chairman’s decision and said party chairman can take any decision in anytime on any matter.
However, the appointment was made by party Chairman Ershad in line with section 20/1/Ka of the JP constitution, Ershad said in a statement.
In the statement, he said he had earlier declared that Quader would be in overall charge of leading the party in his absence and expected that he would be elected party chairman in the next council.
Earlier, HM Ershad relieved his brother GM Quader from the post of co-chairman on March 22, saying that he has failed to discharge his duties and rather created divisions within the party.
“But considering the party’s present overall situation, I withdrew my earlier announcement,” said the former military ruler, who has a reputation for making unpredictable political moves.
“The JP is a democratic party. I have no problem to work with party’s co-chairman GM Quader,” Mashiur Rahman Ranga told The Independent.
He said Ershad will hold the post of chairman of JP as long as he is alive.
“I have no confliction with co-chairman GM Quader. The future leader will be elected by the JP leaders and activists in absence of Ershad.
So, if Quader or other chosen by the activists and leaders of JP, definitely we will work them as per party constitution,” Ranga said in reply to a query.
According to the JP secretary general, the party chairman Ershad has taken the decision as GM Quader to act as party chief in absence of him in line with section 20/1/Ka of the JP constitution—so here is no problem to disobey chairman’s decision.
Earlier on January 17, Ershad appointed his younger brother to act as party chief in his absence in line with the party constitution.
On March 23, Ershad, also leader of the main opposition in parliament, removed GM Quader from the co-chairman post, saying he has failed to carry out his duties and created divisions within the party.
But, he reinstated his brother GM Quader as the party co-chairman on April 4.
Earlier, Ershad nominated his wife Raushan Ershad for deputy leader of the opposition, removing GM Quader from the post on March 23 this year.
Ershad, also leader of the opposition, in another statement issued on the same day, said he removed Quader from the parliamentary post as per section 20/1/Ka of the party charter. – Staff Reporter
