Meghna Gulzar opens up about shooting with Deepika Padukone

After directing two successful thrillers, Talvar and Raazi, ace filmmaker Meghna Gulzar has now completed a biopic on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal titled Chhapaak. Slated to release on January 10, 2020, the film stars Deepika Padukone as Malti and Vikrant Massey as her life partner Amol. Meghna wrapped up the shoot of the film in just 43 days. The film has been shot in New Delhi and Mumbai. It’s been an emotional journey for the filmmaker and she recently spoke about the experience of shooting it after wrapping it up.
Talking to a leading daily, Meghna said, “There is Malti and then there is Deepika who became Malti. Malti’s presence on screen reflects the expression in Deepika’s eyes and on her face, which comes through the prosthetics. For me, Malti is Deepika and Deepika is Malti.”
It’s unbelievable how Deepika has transformed into Malti and Meghna gives credit to the make-up and prosthetic designer, Clover Wootton, for it. Meghna said, “I didn’t want people to watch this film with their eyes shut, the idea was not to create Laxmi’s face on Deepika but something that would be Deepika’s face had it been scarred the way Laxmi’s was.” Deepika’s character Malti will remain in Meghna’s heart forever. The filmmaker revealed that the film is not just based on Laxmi Agarwal’s life. Rather, the story covers a larger perspective , reports ANI.
