Dhaka – The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Thursday acquitted Odhikar secretary Adilur Rahman Khan of charges brought against him in a general diary (GD) filed for allegedly giving wrong information on clearing Motijheel Shapla Chattar on the night of May 5 of Hefajat-e-Islam by law-enforcement agencies.Magistrate Md Nuru Mia passed the order Thursday after hearing on the plea on the day saying that no specific offence was traced against him during the investigation. However, Dhaka’s Cyber Crime Tribunal on Wednesday took cognisance against Adilur Rahman Khan and Odhikar Director Nasiruddin Elan.
On the day Cyber Crime Tribunal Judge AKM Shamsul Islam issued warrant arrest against Elan. The tribunal also passed order to produce Odhkar Secretary to the tribunal. On September 4, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Ashraful Alam filed the GD against Adilur Rahman and Elan.
It was alleged that Odhikar, a human rights organization, published a report saying that 61 people were killed in law enforcers’ drive on the day.
On September 5, the case against the Odhikar officials, filed for distorting facts about the eviction drive against Hifazat-e-Isslam at Dhaka’s Shapla Chattar on May 6, was transferred from Dhaka’s CMM Court to the newly formed Cyber Tribunal.
On August 10, Adilur Rahman Khan was arrested under the ICT Act. – Court Correspondent
