Members of Bangladesh Coast Guards and Fisheries Department, in separate drives, have seized 78,650 meters of contraband current nets from different rivers of Barguna district last night.
During the drives, they also sized 100-kg Hilsa fishes.According official sources, the government has imposed an 11-day ban on catching, selling and marketing of Hilsa fishes across the country. The ban came into force on October 13.The value of the confiscated nets is about Taka 40 lakh, the sources said.The seized nets were burnt at Boritola Ferryghat last night in presence of officials of the concerned departments.
Later, the seized fishes were distributed among different orphanages of the district. –BSS, Barguna
