Corey Anderson’s maiden Test ton led New Zealand fightback as they took a slender 137-run lead with two wickets remaining at the end of the third day of the final Test against Bangladesh on Wednesday.The day’s play ended with BJ Watling (59) and Ish Sodhi (55) well set and unbeaten at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Top Test all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan picked up five wickets for the hosts.
Resuming the day with 107 for three, the visitors lost Ross Taylor early in the morning session, as Shakib Al Hasan hit his fourth. Taylor edged a slow delivery to Nasir Hossain at first slip after having added 53 runs.
The fifth wicket partnership between Kane Williamson and Corey Anderson steadied the visitors’ innings as they added 140 before Abdur Razzak sent back Williamson on 62.
Williamson miscued a tossed up Razzak delivery high in the air on the onside to deep midwicket where Tamim Iqbal was ready to take a good catch.
Al-Amin Hossain then struck a big one for his maiden Test wicket. Anderson (116) drove a full length outside-off delivery in the air straight to Sohag Gazi at extra cover.
Shakib completed his five-for sending back Doug Bracewell (17). Doug edged a slow delivery to Mushfiqur Rahim.
Nasir Hossain picked up the next as Neil Wagner (8) pushed his bat forward to defend a quick outside-off delivery and got an outside edge which settled comfortably in the hands of Marshall Ayub at first slip.
Earlier, Bangladesh posted 282 losing all in their first innings on the back of Tamim Iqbal’s 95.
