Fight over land dispute injures 70 in Habiganj

At least 70 people, including women, were injured in a fierce clash between two rival groups over a disputed land at Teghoria village in Lakhai upazila on Friday.
Police and locals said Nasir Uddin, an expatriate who lives in London, and upazila vice-chairman Nurunnahar Begum had long been at loggerhead
over the ownership of a land.As a sequel to the dispute, supporters of both Nasir and Nurunnahar locked into an altercation in the morning. At one stage, both groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other, leaving at least 70 people injured from both sides.On information, police rushed to the spot and fired eight teargas canisters and 79 rubber bullets to disperse the warring groups.Earlier, the two groups fought violent battles on several occasions over the same issue. -UNB
