RANGPUR, Nov 22, 2013 (BSS) – High officials here on Thursday
asked the union parishad secretaries for engaging their sincere
efforts to increase income and resources of the strongest tier of
the local government bodies at the most bottom level.
They also called upon the union parishad secretaries for
playing their due role in strengthening the local government
bodies through making those self-reliant and ensuring best
services to the common people at the grassroots levels.
They were addressing a tri-monthly meeting and training
course organised for union parishad secretaries by the Local
Government Division under the Union Parishad Governance Project
(UPGP) at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner here.
The concerned divisional and district level government
officials, Upazila Nirbahi Officers, Assistant Commissioners
(Land) and all 76 union parishad secretaries of 76 union
parishads under all eight upazilas in the district participated.
Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht attended and
addressed the meeting and training course as the chief guest with
Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Farid Ahammad in the chair.
Rangpur Divisional Director of the Local Government Division
Minu Sheel addressed the occasion as the special guest and Deputy
Secretary of the Local Government Division Ershadul Bari
moderated the daylong meeting and training course.
The speakers said the union parishads, the strongest tier of
the ministry of local government, have been working successfully
at the people’s doorsteps and contributing a lot in accelerating
the socioeconomic development of the rural people.
They called upon the participants for working with utmost
sincerity in strengthening the union parishad bodies and
enhancing service delivery by the union information service
centres to the commoners for building a middle income Bangladesh
by 2021.
