Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Alhaj Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu has said the physically challenged and autistic children need adequate facilities and congenial atmosphere for flourishing their enormous talents.
The children with disabilities are not at all burden of the society, he said and stressed for taking more steps to ensure their education for enabling them contributing maximum to the nation building activities.
He said this while distributing certificates among the vision impaired and autistic children who passed the primary school certificate examinations-2012 at a ceremony on Tuesday afternoon at Rangpur Vision Impaired and Autistic School here as the chief guest.
With Vice-president of the Advisory Council of the school Mir Anisul Haque Payara in the chair, RCC Councilor for Ward no-24 Hafiz Ahmed Chchuttu attended and addressed the ceremony as the special guest.
Noted social worker Dr Samorpita Ghosh Tania, Chairman of the school managing committee Manjur Hossain Chanchal, Assistant General Secretary Mamunur Rashid Mamun, its member M A Hassan, Headmaster of the school Ashique Iqbal and businessmen Moazzem Hossain Mithu, addressed as the special guests.
The RCC Mayor said the physically challenged people are integral part of the society and many children with disabilities have been proving their extra ordinary abilities and talents in education, sports and other extra curricular activities like the common children.
He stressed for establishing more educational institutions for the physically challenged children ensuring adequate facilities and congenial atmosphere to flourish their latent talents and abilities to make them worthy citizens like the others.
The physically challenged children are doing excellent in getting admission for higher education through competing in the admission tests with thousands of the normal brilliant students coming out of the country’s best and reputed schools and colleges, he said.
He suggested for creating more disabled-friendly environment in all educational institutions for the children with special needs in mainstreaming them with the country’s inclusive education system through ensuring their universal human rights.
