Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury on Thursday said the people want
an unconditional dialogue between the two major political
parties—Awami League and the BNP—to resolve the prevailing political
impasse on the forthcoming general elections.
“The people want an unconditional talks between the two parties
through which the ongoing political situation in the country will be
stable,” she said while talking to reporters after attending a human
chain programme at South Plaza of Sangsad Bhaban.
The Speaker also called upon the two parties to take the hopes and
aspirations of the people into consideration to resolve the political
stalemate.
Earlier, she inaugurated a human chain programme organized jointly by
the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and UN Women to mark the
International Women Repression Resistance Fortnight which begun on
November 25.
The human chain programme moderated by Secretary of the Ministry of
Women and Children Affairs Tareq-ul-Islam was also addressed, among
others, by State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Salma Islam,
Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of
Primary and Mass Education Momtaj Begum, President of Mohila Awami
League Ashrafunnesa Mosharaf, Raushan Jahan Sathi, MP, Zobeda Khatun,
MP, Chairman of Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Momtaj Begum and Nari Progoti
Sangha leader Shahnaj Sumi.
The Speaker said Bangladesh is turned into a role model in the globe
for development and empowerment of women.
She emphasized the need for working to build Bangladesh also a role
model in resisting violence against women. “To do this we have to
bring about change in our thinking and mentality,” she added.
The Speaker called upon all irrespective of gender, religion and caste
to free Bangladesh from women repression.
Addressing the programme, women leaders demanded allocation of 100
reserved seats for female along with giving them opportunity to
participate in the next general elections directly.
They also called upon the people to resist what they said
anti-liberation force Jamaat-e-Islami politically. – Staff Reporter
