Another young man, who suffered burn injuries in an arson attack on a bus in the city’s Shahbagh area on Thursday evening, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday afternoon, raising the death toll from the incident to two. The second deceased, Robin, 25, succumbed to his injuries at the DMCH burn unit around 3:40pm on Friday. Earlier, Md Nahid Morol, son of Suhrawardy Mondal of Shibpur upazila of Madaripur district, died at the DMCH around 11:30 pm on Thursday after suffering burn injuries in the same incident. At least 17 people, including Nahid and his cousin Robin, sustained burn injuries as miscreants set fire to a bus of ‘Bihanga Paribahan’ near the Institution of Engineers in the city’s Shahbagh area on Thursday evening during the 71-hour rail-road-waterway blockade enforced by the BNP-led 18-party alliance. Nahid was going to Firmgate from Gulistan with his cousin Robin in the bus. Nahid suffered 53 percent burn injuries in the fire while Robin 40 percent. Robin is now undergoing treatment at the same hospital. Meanwhile, a case was filed against 16 opposition leaders and some unidentified people with Shahbagh Police Station here on Friday in connection with the arson attack. – UNB
