Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken up a massive plan to cultivate Irri-Boro paddy in 11 southern districts during the current Irri-Boro season.
Office sources said the DAE has set a plan to cultivate 3,47,503 hectares of land with the production target of 1,03,55,111 tonnes of rice in the region.
The districts are-Barisal, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barguna, Rajbari, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Madaripur and Shariatpur.
Officials of DAE are motivating farmers to cultivate Irri-Boro paddy on a large scale for ensuring food security and making growers economically benefited.
Necessary steps have been taken to ensure supply of adequate quantity of improved quality seeds, fertilisers, insecticides and other agricultural inputs among the growers in fair prices to boost Irri-Boro production, said DAE Additional Director of the region Khandaker Sirajul Karim. -BSS, Barisal
