Kazi Zafar demands release of BNP leaders

Kazi Zafar Ahmed has demanded the release of all Opposition BNP

leaders, including the party’s Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir
Rizvi.
Ahmed has been campaigning for a caretaker government to oversee the
next polls, in tune with the BNP-led-18-party alliance.
In a statement on Monday, he said, “We have run out of words to
protest the heinous way in which Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and (BNP’s Central
Executive Committee member) Belal Ahmed were arrested.”
“They were arrested by climbing up the BNP office by a ladder and then
smashing the office and beating up its staff in the early hours of Nov
19.”
He likened Rizvi’s arrest to human rights violation. “We want to say
that a section of the law-enforcement agency committed crimes against
humanity.”
Kazi Zafar met BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Friday, after his recent
parting with the Jatiya Party for criticising party chief HM Ershad
for joining the ‘all-party’ interim cabinet..
AS Jatiya Party chairman Ershad announced his expulsion he proclaimed
to be the party’s new chief.
“On behalf of the party,” he said, “I am urging all the party leaders
and activists to be part of the Opposition’s movement.”
BNP-led 18-party alliance has been demanding the installation of a
‘non-party’ caretaker government to oversee the next polls. –
