Leaders of the ruling Awami League have called on party supporters to resist and fight back the violence unleashed by Jamaat-e-Islami, saying they were ‘Pakistani agents’.
The call came on Sunday from a joint meeting of the party’s Dhaka Metropolitan unit and its fronts.
“It’s Victory Day tomorrow (Monday); we will have to take oath on the day to stop them (Jamaat-e-Islami). Not another attack can be spared.
It has to be prevented strongly,” said the party’s Joint General Secretary Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had told a meeting:” We’ve been very patient. Don’t expect us to just sit and watch you kill
innocent people.”
Hanif said on Sunday that the government has been acting ‘responsibly’ in the wake of the violence and that they wanted the law enforcers to
handle it.
“We are at the very end of our patience. Stop the terrorism.”
In the meeting, Dhaka Metropolitan unit Awami League General Secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said that leaders who cannot stop the Jamaat violence in their areas will have to step down.
“Do not report arsons. Grab hold of them and treat them with sweets- catch them and beat them up,” Maya said.
The party’s Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak said that the Prime Minister has issued instructions to party leaders to stop Jamaat
atrocities in their respective areas.
“We have no more patience. It’s time to take revenge.”
State minister for law Qamrul Islam said: “We are at war now. Speeches are not enough anymore. They need to be resisted.”
Speaking on the note of Pakistani interior minister’s reaction over the execution of war crimes convict Quader Molla, the minister said:
“There’s no point in believing that Khaleda Zia and Jamaat-Shibir are separate entities. These are all agents of the ISI (Pakistani
Intelligence).”
The meeting was meant to discuss the preparation for celebrating the Victory Day on Monday.-bdnews24.com
