Deputy Commissioner (DC) here said the government on principle had taken up a decision to set up a hi-tech park in the district to take it ahead to address the challenges of 21st century.
DC M. Zahurul Islam Rhohel disclosed it in a seminar on the establishment of hi-tech park organised by district administration at the conference room of district collectorate building here on Sunday.
The function was also addressed, among others, by additional deputy commissioner (Revenue) Kamal Uddin Biswas, deputy director of department of agriculture extension (DAE) Mir Abdur Razzak, deputy director of family planning department Dr. Ferdous Hossain Manju and assistant commissioners Kaniz Fatema and Rahat Mannan. Speakers in their speeches said hi-tech park could undoubtedly play significant role to push forward the country towards development to keep pace with world’s economic uplift during the age of globalisation.
It is a fact that Information Technology has been identified as the “thrust sector” for the economy of Bangladesh; they said adding that that’s why the Government of Bangladesh took the decision to establish the hi-tech park here.
Earlier, the keynote paper on the subject was presented by additional deputy commissioner (General) Abu Bakar Siddique and said the missions of hi-tech park were to establish a world class business environment for targeted high growth industrial sector and new business and to develop indigenous technological capability for the development of the local industries. To enter into foreign markets by exporting state of the art technology products and to establish infrastructure to facilitate hassle-free industrial operation with necessary support were also the visions of the hi-tech park establishment, he also said. DC M. Zahurul Islam Rhohel said the hi-tech park would be established at Sakoa Bridge area, adjacent to Gaibandha-Palashbari Road of the district and sought whole hearted cooperation of all to attain the cherish goal to push forward the district towards development.
The DC also said the hi-tech park would also help create working opportunities to a large number of people particularly the youths who are skilled on information technology. -BSS, Gaibandha
