‘O’ and ‘A’ level examinees can take police protection if they want. The examinations for English medium students began from Tuesday amid countrywide violent agitations by the Opposition.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benzir Ahmed told a press conference at Minto Road that candidates sitting for the exams and their guardians would be provided personal security if they want it.The students or guardians in that case would have to file a request in relevant police stations, said the DMP commissioner. About the arrest of BNP leaders on Tuesday, he said they were arrested on specific charges.
BNP leader Selima Rahman, adviser to the BNP chief Khandker Mahbub Hossain and organising secretary Fazlul Haq Milon were being held on charges of provoking a bomb attack.
About the steps taken by the police to establish normalcy after the elections, he said almost 1,200 criminals were awarded punishments through mobile courts. More that 2,000 miscreants are now in prison, he said.
The DMP commissioner said people were recruited to carry out sabotage and trigger blasts in the capital in exchange for a paltry sum.
“Police to a large extent is able to bring back normalcy to the capital. Normal life can be fully restored in Dhaka if the people give us assistance,” he said.-bdnews24.com
