President invites Hasina to form next govt

Dhaka – President Abdul Hamid on Thursday invited Awami League President Sheikh Hasina to form the next government as her party won absolute majority in the 10th parliamentary elections. The President came up with the call when the AL chief met him at Bangabhaban in the evening. President Abdul Hamid also greeted Sheikh Hasina for her party’s landslide victory in the election.
Hasina, also the Prime Minister of the outgoing government, informed the President that the elected MPs were sworn in earlier in the day.
She also apprised the President that the AL Parliamentary Party members also elected her today as the leader of the House and said her party now holds majority in Parliament.
The AL Chief also requested the President to invite her party to form the next government. President’s Press Secretary Ehsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
The meeting between the AL chief and the President began at 6:18 pm and ended at 7:30 pm. Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam accompanied Sheikh Hasina. Cabinet Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan was also present. – UNB
