Islami Bank East Zone scored 301 runs for 9 wickets in 90.2 overs against defending champions Walton Central Zone on the first day of the four-day Bangladesh Cricket League that began today (Sunday) at the BKSP ground-2 in Savar. Sent into bat first, Islami Bank East Zone made a good start scoring 68 runs in the opening stand between Tamim Iqbal and Nazimuddin. Opener Nazim Uddin made 57 runs off 131 balls with nine fours and a six while hard hitting national opener cum East Zone captain Tamim Iqbal scored 37 runs off 63 balls with four fours. Middle order batsman Liton Kumar contributed 79 runs off 112 balls with 12 fours, lower order batsman Jubair Ahmed scored 33 runs off 59 balls with three fours and a six, one down Mominul Haque made 32 runs off 24 balls with seven fours while Alok Kapali added 24 runs off 54 balls with two fours. Captain of the holders Walton Central Zone Mahmudullah was the most successful bowler of the day claiming four wickets for 67 runs in 23 overs while Marshal Ayub grabbed two wickets for 32 runs in 8 overs and pacer Shahadat Hossain took two wickets for 54 runs in 10.2 overs. – UNB
