A vegetable trader was chopped to death by his rivals over previous enmity at Nowaoi village in Bahubal upazila on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Ramij Miah, 45, a resident of the village.Quoting locals, police said there had a longstanding dispute between Ramij Miah and Fazal Miah of the village over ownership of a piece of land.As a sequel to it, Fazal Miah and his men swooped on Ramij in the area and chopped him indiscriminately with sharp weapons when he was returning home from a local market in the same upazila at about 9:00 pm, leaving him dead on the spot.The attackers also stabbed four villagers, including a woman, as they came to Ramij’s rescue.They were admitted to the upazila health complex.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.A case was filed in this connection. -UNB, Habiganj
