Bagerhat – Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued four fishermen, kidnapped by pirates for ransom, from Katlarkhal area of the Sundarbans East Zone on Tuesday afternoon. The rescued fishermen are Manik, 35, Yunus, 60, Saheb Ali, 40 and Yeasin, 28, of Kathaltali village of Patharghata upazila in Barguna district.
Lt Commander M Mohiuddin Majumder, staff officer (Operation) at Mongla West Zone Coast Guard, said a team of coastguards from Siji Supati station conducted a drive at the den of notorious pirate gang, “Nayon Bahini”, in the Katlarkhal area in the afternoon and rescued the fishermen.
A fishing boat was also recovered during the drive, he said.
However, no one could be arrested as the gangsters fled into the deep forest after the sensing the presence of the law enforcers.
The pirates kidnapped the four fishermen along with the fishing boat while catching fish in the world’s largest mangrove forest last week.
Earlier, on Monday the coast guard members rescued three other fishermen from the same area. – UNB
