Govt Taking away people’s rights: B Chowdhury

President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh Prof Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Saturday accused the present government of taking away the rights of people every now and then.
“Taking away rights of people is not a good sign for politics. The government is doing whatever its wants. The opposition is not allowed to take to the streets,” he said while addressing a discussion meeting at the National Press Club.The former President observed that the 10th parliamentary election is not held following the norms of democracy. “All democratic values were destroyed through holding the January 5 general elections, he said.
He demanded the government has to arrange fresh elections through talks immediately.
“The government has to hold a pro-people election. Otherwise, the country will plunge into deep crisis,” he added.
Terming the cabinet of the present government as peculiar one, the BDB chief said there is a strange government-aided opposition which is rare in the world.
He suggested the opposition to be courageous and patriotic like Maulana Bhasani shunning the internal feud and anarchism among them to achieve the expected goal of the country.
Bhasani Anusari Parisahd organised the meeting to mark the historic Kagmari Conference Day.
Presided over by language movement veteran Abdul Motin, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by founder of Gonoshasthaya Kendra Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, CPB presidium member Haider Akbar Khan Rano, columnist Syed Abul Maksud and Brack University teacher Dr Piyas Karim. – Staff Reporter
