SSC exams begin across country with 1.4 million candidates

Dhaka – Some 6,778 students were absent on the first day the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations that began across the country on Sunday.
Of them, 3,326 are under eight general education boards while 2,400 under Madrasah Education Board and the rest 1,052 are under the Vocational Education Board, said Prof Taslima Begum, Chairman of Dhaka Education Board and Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee.
Meanwhile, 10 examinees were expelled for resorting to unfair means on the day, she said.
This year, a total of 1,432,727 students registered their names under the 10 educational boards to appear in the examinations in 2,942 centres from 27,489 institutions across the country.
This year the number of total examinees has risen by 129,554 from previous year’s 1,303,203.
Some 296 students are appearing in the examinations from seven overseas centres.
This year, the SSC examinations are being held under creative question papers except Bangla 2nd paper, English 1st and 2nd papers and Mathematics, the minister said.
The examinations were supposed to start on February 2, but the exams were shifted to February 9 due to Biswa Ijtema.
The written examinations will end on March 13 and the practical exams are scheduled to begin on March 16.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid visited Dhanmondi Government Boys’ High School centre in the morning.
“All preparations have been taken to hold the examinations in a peaceful manner,” he told reporters after visiting the centre.
He said necessary measures have been taken to prevent any incident of question paper leakage.
He said that the results will be published within 60 days.
Nahid also urged the political parties not to enforce any hartal during the examinations. – UNB
