Cox’s Bazar – Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard in a drive arrested 200 people, including 63 foreign nationals, from the Bay of Bengal near Saint Martin’s Island in Teknaf upazila early Tuesday foiling their bid to migrate to Malaysia in an irregular fashion.Lieutenant Arif Hossain, commander for Saint Martin Coast Guard, said a team of the forces, on a tip-off, arrested the people in two fishing boats around 4:30am while they were heading towards Malaysia illegally.
The team also arrested 11 crew members of the two boats.
The detained people include 58 Myanmar nationals and five Thai citizens.
Later, they were handed over to Teknaf thana police, the commander added.
Sources at the Coast Guard said human traffickers brought the arrestees from different districts of the country to send them to Malaysia by boat illegally. – UNB
