Outlaw leader killed in Madaripur ‘gunfight’

Madaripur –A leader of the outlawed Purba Banglar Sarbahara Party was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Shibchar upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Kiron Bepari, 29, son of Abu Bepari of Goalanda upazila of Rajbari district.Officer-in-charge of Shibchar Police Station AKM Masud Khan said they had information that Kiron, on behalf of the outlawed party, Sarbahara, sent a letter along with a piece of shroud to a Canadian expatriate demanding Tk 5 lakh as toll from him at Pachchar in the upazila on Thursday (February 13).
A team of police launched a drive in Pachchar area on Tuesday noon and arrested Kiron and his two associates– Jamal and Shiblu.
Later, police along with Kiron started another drive in Nilkhir Baghmara area at about 1:15am to recover arms in his possession.
Sensing the presence of police, associates of Kiron fired gunshots at the law enforcers who also hit back, triggering a gunfight that left Kiron dead on the spot.
Police also recovered one pistol and several rounds of bullet from the scene. – UNB
