US embassy officials meet Hefazat leaders

The United States has expressed its interest to know about 13-point demands of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh and the qaumi madrasha education.
US embassy political officer Kathleen Gibilisco and assistant political expert Lubain Chowdhury Masum expressed the interest during a meeting with HIB leaders at Hathazari Madrasha in Chittagong on Wednesday, says a press release.Secretary General of HIB Allama Hafez Muhammad Junayed Babunagori, Maulana Anas Madani, joint secretary general Maulana Moinuddin Ruhi, Maulana Azizul Haque and press secretary Maualna Munir Ahmed, among others, attended the meeting.
Kathleen Gibilisco wanted to know the HIB movement for implementation of 13-point demands, its organisational activities and policy and ideology and the incidents of Shapla Square on May 5 last year.
She also proposed whether the HIB leaders are interested to visit to USA to know the state of US-run Islamic institutions.
The HIB leaders made it clear that they are not waging movement to take some one to power or to topple down some one.
They further said the HIB does not believe in implementing the demands in a violent manner.
Maulana Munir Ahmed said the two and half an hour long meeting began at 10:00am.
The embassy officials also visited Hathazari Madrasha campus including its education building and hostels. – Staff Reporter
