RCC launches new health services to reduce maternal, child deaths

A new health service programme was launched in the city on Thursday afternoon under the Urban Primary Healthcare Services Delivery Project with the main objective of reducing maternal and child death rates.
Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Alhaj Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu launched the programme at a ceremony on Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital premises at Mahiganj here as the chief guest.The programme is being implemented at three primary healthcare centres and one maternity centre under the supervision of the RCC authorities with financial assistances of the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry. The health, medicare and nutrition services will be provided to the extremely poor pregnant women, mothers, babies and children under third phase of the project being implemented by the Local Government Division under the Annual Development Programme of the Government of Bangladesh.President of Khulna Mukti Sena Sangstha (KMSS) Dr Mostafa Kamal presided over the programme launching ceremony and chief executive officer of RCC Alhaj Ruhul Amin Khan delivered the welcome speech.Project Director Abu Bakar Siddik, deputy director of Family Planning Department Dewan Morshed Kamal and Civil Surgeon Dr Reajul Islam addressed the ceremony as the special guests.The RCC mayor said the poor mothers, children, women during
pregnancy and post delivery period and newborn babies will get cost free health and medicare facilities under the 4-year project to end by June in 2017.Under the programme, comprehensive health services and treatments will be provided to the mothers and children through the maternity centre at Mahiganj and three other primary Healthcare centres at different places in the city, he said. -BSS
