There are about 4,097 illegal buildings in the city which were built without approval of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkhaya (Rajuk). Most of the buildings belong to different real estate developers and eminent personalities.
Minister for Housing and Public Works Engineer Mosharraf Hossain told Parliament on Sunday while replying to a question from ruling party lawmaker AKM Rahmatullah.He mentioned the names of owners and their addresses those built the illegal buildings in the city.
The real estate developers those constructed illegal buildings include East West Properties Limited, Amin Mohammad Foundation Limited, Meghna Real Estate, Silicon Properties, Rupayan Housing Limited, Square Development Company Limited, Mohammadi Homes Limited and DOM INNO DEV.
Of the illegal buildings, 1,410 were identified under the office of Authorised Officer-3 while 1,022 under the office of Authorised Officer-1, and 560 the office of Authorised Officer-2 (2B).
Besides, 510 illegal buildings were identified the office of Authorised Officer-2 (2A) and 595n the office of Authorised Officer-4.
The Housing Minister said the Rajuk continues its routine drive to remove the unapproved establishments.
Replying to another question from AKM Maidul Islam of Jatiya Party, he said 25 justices allocated 5-katha plots in the Jheelmil project and the process to allocate plots to 24 lawmakers is going on.
Meanwhile, opposition chief whip Tajul Islam termed the statement of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia that there is no opposition in what she said in so-called Parliament as regretful.
Speaking in the House on point of order, he said Khaleda has to wait years if she wants to join Parliament.
“We do not want that opposition which staged walks out day after day without any reasons. We do not want to stay in the opposition just to withdraw salaries and allowances,” he added.
The opposition chief whip further said the BNP participated in upazila polls since they could realize that they made a mistake by boycotting the January 5 general elections.
Later, some lawmakers took part in the general discussion on thanks-giving motions on the address of the President. –Staff Reporter
