Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Monday alleged that some civil society members through television talk-show programmes are instigating the BNP to wage movement.
“We are witnessing that some civil society members are instigating BNP through talk-show to wage movement as the party has done well in the upazila parishad polls. I want to say to the civil society members do you again want conflict and bloodshed in the country? Don’t you want peace in the country?,” he said. The ruling party leader made the remarks while addressing a meeting in the memory of filmmaker Alamgir Kumkum, organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote at the Shilpakala Academy in the city. Terming the upazila parishad polls a non-party one, Hanif said the upazila parishad polls is a local government polls. There is no party manifesto centering the polls. Even no party nominated candidate. A candidate can win the polls through his family, groups and social identity.
He said the result of the upazila parishad polls can’t be the yardstick of any party’s popularity.
The ruling party leader termed BNP chairperson’s threat to wage movement after the polls as an ominous sign for the country.
He said: “The year 2013 was a nightmare for the Bangalee nation. Anarchy prevailed in the country and people were frightened. But normalcy returned after the January 5 polls. Now people are living in peace. At such a stage, Khaleda’s speech emerged as an ominous sign for the country.”
Food Minister Quamrul Islam also spoke at the meeting, chaired by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote president Tarana Halim. – UNB
