A Dhaka court on Thursday fixed March 13 to hear on the bail petition of Tazreen Fashions Managing Director (MD) Delwar Hossain in the case filed in connection with the devastating fire in the garment factory in 2012.
Dhaka’s District and Sessions Judge Md Abdul Majid passed the order following a time petition submitted by Delwar’s lawyer. On February 9, a court of Dhaka sent MD Delwar and Chairman of the company and his wife
Mahmuda Akhter to jail, after they surrendered to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka seeking .However, on February 10, Dhaka’s Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Ismail Hossain rejected the bail of Delwar and granted one-month’s conditional bail to Chairman Mahmuda.
Earlier, on Dec 22 last year, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted charge sheet against 13 officials of Tazreen Fashions Limited including six fugitives, Chairman and MD.
The CID Inspector AKM Mohshinuzzaman Khan submitted the charge sheet and the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court Senior Judicial Magistrate Wasim Sheikh had fixed December 31 for cognizance hearing.
Other seven accused of the case include Security Suprvisor Hamidul Islam Lavlu, Al-Amin, Anisur Rahman, Store-in-Charge Al-Amin and Loader Shameem Mia, Security Guard Rana alias Anarul. However, they secured bail from the court.
But, Assistant Production Manager Sohel Rana, Cutting Loader Sujan Hawlader and former Chairman late Abdul Quddus’s names were not included in the charge sheet.
On November 24 last year, at least 112 people were killed and over 100 injured overnight in the devastating fire of Tazreen Fashions at Ashulia under Savar upazila.
The fire broke out at about 7 pm and 10 fire fighter units brought the fire under control at midnight after five-hour long frantic efforts.
On November 25 of the year, a case was filed with Ashulia Police Station in connection with the fire. Later the case was transferred to CID. – Court Correspondent
