In an apparent reaction to Khaleda Zia’s recent remarks over Gopalganj, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said those who have failed to forget their old lords are against the country’s independence and they do not like Gopalganj.
“Those who want to stay with the defeated forces feel bad when they hear the name of Gopalganj,” she said.
Hasina, also the President of the ruling Awami League, said this when newly-elected chairman, vice chairman, female vice chairman of Kotalipara Upazila Parishad and other party leaders met her at her official residence Ganobhaban at night.AL Advisory council member and FBCCI president Kazi Akramuddin Ahmed, Kotalipara upazila parishad chairman Mojibur Rahman Howlader, vice chairman Motiur Rahman Hajra, female vice chairman Laxmi Rani Sarker, Kotalipara upazila AL president adv Shubash Chandra Joy Dhar, among others, spoke on the occasion.
She said there are some people who feel pain when they hear about Gopalganj, but it was Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman under whose leadership the country achieved independence hailed from Gopalganj.
The Prime Minister said the aim of her government is to ensure the welfare of the country’s people. “I’ve no personal ambition…we work wholeheartedly so that the country could achieve socioeconomic progress.”
Taking a swipe at BNP-Jamaat for their countrywide hartals and blockades before the 10th parliamentary elections damaging the public life and property to deter development activities in the country, Hasina said the terrorist nature of BNP-Jamaat is now clear to people.
“What they (BNP-Jamaat) call movement is actually terrorism and militancy. The people of Bangladesh have responded to our call and that’s why we’ve been able to form government again. We want to take Bangladesh to a certain height maintaining the continuity of development.”
The AL chief also asked her party leaders and workers to gain trust and confidence of the common people through rendering services to them. She also directed them to engage in nation-building activities following the Father of the Nation’s ideals.
She expressed her high hope that Bangladesh would become a mid-income country well before the targeted 2021.”Bangladesh is moving ahead and it’ll keep on moving.” – UNB
