At least eight houses of four families were gutted in a fire that broke out at Prothom Alo Char in Sadar upazila of the district early Tuesday.
Locals said the fire originated from a mosquito coal at a cowshed of one Masmat Ullah in the char (landmass emerged from riverbed) area around 1:00am and it soon engulfed the other adjacent houses.Hearing the screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after half an hour of frantic efforts.The affected families are now living under the open sky. -UNB, Kurigram
