Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 32 tortoises of rare species from Putkhali border area in Benapole town on Wednesday.
Commander Subedar Farid Uddin of Putkhali camp of BGB-23 said they had secret information that some tortoises smuggled from India were being taken to Benapole town through the border in the morning.A patrol team of BGB conducted a drive in the area and recovered the 32 tortoises contained in a bag belonging to some people.The smugglers, however, managed to flee the scene while searching the bag.The recovered animals will be handed over to Navaran forest office, added the BGB sources. -UNB, Benapole
