Chairman of Ant-Corruption Commission (ACC) M Badiuzzaman on Sunday urged the people not to suspect the activities and sincerity of the commission particularly in carrying out the ongoing inquiry against some ruling party leaders.
“Please wait and see. Don’t be disappointed. Keep trust on us. We will take legal action against all people involved with corruption,” he said while addressing a human chain programme in front of the National Press Club to mark the observance of corruption prevention week.The chief of the anti-corruption watchdog said the previous commissions did not take any action against ruling party men but it is the present commission that took initiatives against them. “The process will be continued; we won’t spare anyone,” he added.
“We are not working for showing people. There is no scope to spare corrupt people anyway. The commission to continue its activities against corrupt people whatever mighty they are,” he said.
Badiuzzaman also issued a note of warning against the wrongdoers saying that the commission would take remarkable action against those who are involved in corruption.
He urged all to assist the commission to find out and punish the wrongdoers.
ACC commissioner M Shahabuddin said the commission would take legal action against all suspects who are now in the government or had been in power in the past.
The commission on January 22 began the process of investigating the wealth of seven people who were ministers and lawmakers in the tenure of the previous Awami League-led government after they submitted affidavit of wealth statement prior to January 5 national elections. The affidavits of some former and incumbent ministers and lawmakers showed an unusual increase in their wealth in the past five years.
The people are– former health minister AFM Ruhul Haque, former state minister for housing and public works Abdul Mannan Khan, former state minister for water resources ministry Mahbubur Rahman, lawmaker of Cox’s Bazar-4 Abdur Rahman Bodi, Dhaka-14 Aslamul Haque Aslam, Rajshahi-4 (Bagmara) Enamul Haque and Satkhira -2 Abdul Jabbar. – Staff Reporter
