Bangladesh National Party (BNP) will not give such a programme that may cause sufferings to the people, said BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday.
“We will crease mass movement against the illegal government taking people with us,” he said while addressing a press conference at party headquarters at Naya Paltan in the city.
He alleged that the BNP supported candidates who won the upazila polls are being harassed by implicating them in false cases so that they cannot take part in oath taking ceremony.Side by side filing of false cases against BNP-supported candidates and their activists, the ruling party terrorists are carrying out attacks on them in different places in the country.
The BNP leader claimed that the Election Commission (EC) had shamelessly favoured the ruling party backed candidates in the upazila parisahd polls by keeping the law enforcers inactive.
He said the government has apparently been celebrating the last spring of its power in a BAKSAL style. The EC has completed the burial of the process of democratic election, he added.
Criticising the communications minister for his statement that the upazila parishad elections were held in a fair manner comparing the other polls, Salahuddin said the elections might be fair one comparing the elections held in 1973 and January 5 this year.
He however mentioned the survey report of Election Working Group that 53 per cent fake votes were cast in the upazila parishad polls. “In accordance with the observations of local, international communities, election observers and mass media, it was not an election at all,” he added.
BNP vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman, Khairul Kabir Khokan, Abdul Latif Jony, Asadul Kabir Shain and Rafiq Sikder, among others, were present on the occasion. – Staff Reporter
