Finally, superintendent of police of Munshiganj M Habibur Rahman has been withdrawn in connection with the assault of Gazaria UNO by a cop. Habibur was made officer on special duty (OSD) and attached to the Police Headquarters on charges of dereliction of duty, indulging in corruption, misconduct and failure to contain violence during the upazila polls in Gazaria, said police sources. He handed over the charge to additional police super M Zakir Hossain on Thursday night, Zakir told UNB on Friday. The closed SP showed apathy in taking case in connection with the assault of Dr ATM Mahbub-ul-Karim by an assistant sub-inspector and the killing of three people in election violence despite the orders of the Home Ministry and the Election Commission. Police sources said the officer-in-charge of Gazaria police station was earlier withdraw and the SP sent on a seven-day leave. The Munshiganj district administration has also lodged 22 complaints against Habibur Rahman to the Cabinet Division. The Public Administration Ministry formed a three-member inquiry committee, headed by the Cabinet Division additional secretary NM Ziaul Alam, to look into the allegations. – UNB
