A project entitled ‘Building a Disaster Resilient Bangladesh’ launched in June, 2013 runs smoothly creating positive impacts to the people of disaster prone areas.
The objective of the project is to increase resilient and establish a culture of disaster risk reduction among community and institutions vulnerable to natural hazard in urban and rural areas of Bangladesh.To form the social development committee in ward level in a bid to minimize the prolonged sufferings of the vulnerable communities due to natural calamities is also another objective of the project.The project designed for 18 months is being implemented at Urya and Fazlupur unions under Fhulchhari upazila and Belka union under Sundarganj upazila of the district, said an official.SKS Foundation and Islamic Relief Bangladesh jointly organized the function with the financial support of European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection.As part of the project activities, a campaign ‘We Are Ready to Face Disaster’ was conducted in the project command areas of the district
from March 20 to March 27 to help aware the vulnerable community.Local ward and union disaster management committee were also activated and involved in the campaign to make it a total success, said project manager Ashraful Alam. The campaign would launch for the second time in June, 2014.
Executive chief of SKS Foundation Khandkar Russel Ahmed Liton said activity on disaster preparedness among the vulnerable communities was also going on to save their lives and to increase their resilience during the emergencies. -BSS, Gaibandha
