About 1200 kilograms of jatka (small hilsha fish fries) were seized and four passenger launches fined for carrying the banned item during an anti-jatka catching drive of a mobile court in Tetulia river here last night.
District administration and Fisheries Department jointly conducted the drive from 6 pm to 3 am aimed at discouraging people from catching the fries of the hilsha fishes.A total of Taka 20,000 was realized as fine from the launches Swarnadip, Koko-3, MV Tarik and MV Jamal Khan.Fishery officer Bimal Chandra Das said that a mobile court headed by magistrate M Kamruzzaman on secret information of carrying jatka from Bhola to Dhaka.”After searching eight launches, we found jatka in four and fined Taka five thousand each,” Bimal said. -BSS, Barisal
