CPB-BSD 3-day Teesta March from Apr 17

The alliance of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) will launch a three-day Long March towards Teesta Barrage on April 17 demanding equitable share of waters of 54 common rivers, including the Teesta, flowing from India. The leaders of the two-party alliance, known as CPB-BSD Left Alliance, said the long march codenamed ‘Teesta March’ will start from the city following a brief rally in front of the National Press Club on April 17.   The long march will reach Dilla area of the Teesta Barrage via Tongi-Gazipur-Sirajganj-Bogra-Rangpur in the afternoon of April 19 where a grand rally will be held then.   “Our programme is aimed at strengthening our national demand for obtaining equitable share of waters of the 54 common rivers, including the Teesta, as internationally recognised method of water sharing,” said Ruhin Hossain Prince, a top leader of the CPB.   He said all need a strong national and international campaign to force India to ensure equitable share of waters.   The CPB-BSD Alliance leaders said they have planned to hold rallies at different points of major cities in their journey to the Teesta Barrage area.   “We hope people will join our campaign from different points and finally a big rally will be held in the Teesta Barrage area,” said another leader, adding that they were taking all-out preparations to make the march a success. – UNB
