The 76th birth anniversary of eminent journalist Syed Mahmud is being celebrated today. Born on 1 May in a respectable Muslim Family in Jessore, he joined the profession of journalism in 1956 as the Jessore Staff Correspondent of the Daily Sangbad. Subsequently he worked with daily Purbadesh, Millat, and the daily Ittefaq.Syed Mahmud held important positions in the monthly Agradoot, the weekly Joybangl;, news agencies – the Bangladesh Press International the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS). He is now the editor of daily Diner Alo. He has to his credit anthology ‘Jwar’ and ‘Onno Diganta’ Bangla rendering of a book. Two more books ‘Ekanta Chetonay’ and ‘Smriti Samudre Eka’ await publication.
Actively associated with social welfare activities, Syed Mahmud has been associated with the ‘Jatiya Chetona Parishad’ as senior vice-president since its inception. He is also the founder president of another organisation known as ‘Swatantra’. Syed Mahmud has been suffering from heart disease and some other health complications.
