Erosion affected families get help in Rajshahi

Some 177 families, who were affected badly by the Padma river erosion, received assistance in Bagha Upazila of the district yesterday.Each of the beneficiary families got 30 kilograms of rice and Taka 500 in cash provided by the ministry of Relief and Disaster Management. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, distributed the cash and kinds among them at Chalk Rajapur High School ground.Speaking on the occasion, Shahriar Alam said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is pledged bound to help the affected people to lessen their sufferings. “We are very much positive towards proper rehabilitation of the affected people,” he added.Besides, he said the government has been working relentlessly to bring a permanent solution of the river erosion problem.He viewed there is no scope of preventing occurrence of natural catastrophes but has opportunity of reducing damage and other casualties through the best uses of modern technologies and communications.He, however, urged the beneficiaries to face the natural calamities with courage.Upazila Nirbahi Officer Badal Chandra Halder, Project Implementation Officer Nurul Islam and Youth Development Officer Shakhawat Hossain, among others, were present at the programme.
