Blanket factory gutted inside Dhaka Central Jail

A blanket factory inside the boundary of Dhaka Central Jail was gutted by a fire in the city’s Bakshibazar area on Friday afternoon.
Sources at the Fire Service central control room said the fire originated at the comforter factory, ‘Warming Woolen Mills’, at about 4:20pm.On information, nine firefighting units rushed in and brought the fire under control around 5:30pm.
Sources at the central jail said around 3000-4000 prisoners from four wards –– Meghna, Padma, Medical and Monihar –- were evicted from their wards following the fire. They all gathered in an open space.
Security in and around the jail was also beefed up following the fire incident.
Meanwhile, the reason behind the fire could not be known yet.
Factory owner, Waresat Hussain Belal, also a parliament member from Netrakona-5 constituency, said the fire might have erupted from an electric short circuit at the factory.
He also claimed the losses caused by the fire to be around Tk 21 crore. – UNB
