The BNP has taken a tough stance against its student leaders, who were agitating against keeping them out of the new committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
The dissident student leaders of JCD, who earlier staged demonstration in front of BNP central office protesting the new committee, are now being axed and served show cause notices for their involvement in the agitation.Some of them have already been axed from the primary membership of the student wing of the BNP and some others served notice to appear physically at party central office to explain their involvement in the agitation.
A total of three student leaders have been expelled and seven served show cause to appear at party central office by Tuesday to explain their roles during the agitation in front of party office and in the streets.
The expelled ones are former organising secretary of JCD Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokan and former vice-president Abu Sayed from who have been removed from all the posts their primary membership of BNP for violating of organisational discipline. Joint secretary general of new committee Gazi Rezwanul Haque has also been expelled.
According to a press release the BNP said it served show cause notice on four former JCD leaders asking them to appear before the party central leaders and explain their conduct during the agitation that started following announcement of new committee on November 14.
The press release signed by BNP joint secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed asked leaders of the party and its front and associate organisations not to maintain any kind of organisational contact and relationship with the two punished JCD leaders.
The BNP served notices against former JCD vice president Javed Hasan Swadhin, Tarun Dey, fromer joint secretary Torikul Islam Titu, Ferdous Ahmed Munn and former assistant general secretary Rakibul Islam Royel for their alleged involvement in violation of organizational discipline.
The JCD on the other hand served show cause on its two thana level leaders—Babu and Nahid to appear at party central office to explain their roles during the agitation.
The former JCD leaders who were kept out the new committee have been asked to appear at party central office by 5pm Tuesday to explain their roles during the agitation when the mural of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was damaged.
The Zia’s mural is kept at the entrance of the BNP headquarters. When contacted a former JCD leader who was served show cause notice said they would go to the party office and explain their positions.
“We are ready to appear at the party central office Tuesday. We will tell the leaders whatever they want to know from us,” he said.
They said their movement is against what they termed ‘the collaborators of government, not against the party.’
“We are still ready to carry out movement against the government’s collaborators. We will remain steadfast in our stand even if we are expelled,” he said.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia had entrusted the responsibility to party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Mirza Abbas, Amanullah Aman and Moazzem Hossain Alal to resolve the controversy over the formation of new committee of the JCD.
They held meetings separately with the dissident leaders but failed to solve the problem as they demanded the removal of BNP student affairs secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and assistant secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku. – Staff Reporter
