BNP’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday said the statements of Prime Minister’s Political Affairs Adviser HT Imam proved the voting in January 5 election held under the AL-led government was rigged.
“HT Imam has made it clear that BNP’s apprehension vote rigging votes in the election was true,” he said while addressing a press conference at party head office at Naya Paltan in the city.Fakhrul’s comments came two days after the publication of statements made by HT Imam that they have conducted the poll by their recruited people both in Bangladesh Police and administration.
Asked to comment on the United Nations call to stay the execution of war crimes convict and Jamaat leader Mohammed Quamaruzzaman, he said, “The BNP wants holding the trial for crimes against humanity. But that should be without political motivation and of international standard,” he added.

He said the BNP considers Sylhet Mayor Ariful Haque and the Habiganj Mayor have been implicated in the case by submitting charge sheets thrice after 10 years of the incident with a political motive.
“The government want to rid the BNP of its leadership by implicating party leaders in false cases and carrying out repression on them,” he said.
Fakhrul said the Standing Committee meeting also condemned the government for allowing his party to hold its planned rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 8 and police attacks on party activities in different places on the following day.
He said the meeting also condemned the statements AL leaders including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu against late President Ziur Rahman.
Replying to a question, he said the movement of the BNP is in progress and fresh programmes would be announced soon.
