A court here on Sunday sent 43 local leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its affiliates, including BNP’s district unit acting president, to jail rejecting their bail prayers in two cases filed for attacking police and explosives.The leaders and activists sent to jail include BNP’s district unit acting president Shamsul Huda, vice-president Rafiqur Rahman Totan, city unit president and Jessore municipality mayor Maruful Islam, Keshabpur municipality mayor Abdus Samad Biswas, Jobo Dal’s district unit president Ehsanul Haque Munna and Chchatra Dal district unit president Rabiul Islam.Court sources said when the 43 BNP leaders and activists surrendered before the court in the afternoon and sought bail, Senior Judicial Magistrate Maruf Ahmed sent them to jail rejecting the prayer On October 01, when BNP leaders and activists formed a human chain in front of Jessore Press Club, police obstructed them, triggering a clash.
